@MsAddison50, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check the Printer Status and Connection

Check for Paper Jams: Even though a test page printed, ensure there are no paper jams inside the printer.

Check the Printer's Display: If there are any alerts or warning lights, follow the instructions in the printer's display panel.

Ensure Printer is Set as Default

Go to the "Devices and Printers" section:

Open the Control Panel on your Windows 10 PC.

Click on Devices and Printers.

Right-click on your HP OfficeJet 9012e printer and select Set as Default Printer.

This will ensure Windows sends print jobs to the correct printer.

Restart Print Spooler (Windows):

  1. Search services in the search box. Open the service menu.
  2. In the list, find Print Spooler.
  3. Right-click Print Spooler and click Restart.
    1. If it’s stopped, click Start instead.
  4. Close the window. Check if the issue persists

Clear the Print Queue

If there's a stuck print job in the queue, it can cause the printer to go into an error state:

Open Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.

Double-click your HP OfficeJet 9012e.

Click on See what's printing.

If there are any jobs in the queue, right-click and select Cancel.

Update Printer Drivers

Your printer driver might be outdated or incompatible:

Go to Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Device Manager.

Expand Printers and right-click your HP OfficeJet 9012e.

Select Update Driver and choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Alternatively, you can visit HP’s website, search for the OfficeJet 9012e drivers, and download the latest ones for Windows 10 (32-bit).

Reinstall the Printer

If nothing else works, you might need to remove and reinstall the printer:

Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Right-click your printer and choose Remove device.

After removing, unplug the printer and restart your computer.

Plug the printer back in and reinstall the printer by going to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
