HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

Lightly used for 2 years.  Has been working with no problem with HP 950 (black) and 951 (color) cartridges.  In the middle of printing of a 30 page document, it stopped after printing 8 pages and error statement was black ink has been depleted.  Stopped the printer and installed a new HP 950 (black) ink cartridges. Restarted the printer.  It did not resume printing and there was an error message saying "printhead missing, not detected or incorrectly installed."  Stopped the printer, removed the cartridge and reinstalled.  The same message. As HP problem solver suggested, turned the printer on/off several times, also cut off power a few minutes, etc. but nothing worked.  The HP950 ink cartridge I installed was an unused new one but one year old.  So, I purchased a brand new one and tried but the result was the same error message.  Has any one of you had a problem like this and if you did, how did you solve it?  Your help would be greatly appreciated.
