With increasing frequency to the point that this happens every time I want to print something, my printer does not respond to the print commands. When I go to printer something, the printer is silent and the printer queue - when it doesn't just crash - says its printing when nothing is happening. I reinstall or update the printer driver when this happens, and when I do, the printer does complete its job.
The last time I had to update the driver just to get the printer to print was somewhere around December 20, and a week later I'm back to a problem I thought I resolved - and had resolved several times prior. Also, the last time the printer did complete its job, it responded super slowly. This printer isn't that old, and it was in disuse for a while since I use printer resources elsewhere, but I'd rather fix this issue for free rather than replace it.
Also, my internet connection was VPN but then I switched to wireless, thinking that would resolve the issue, but I'm pretty sure this happens regardless of my internet connection.

Hi @domev,
Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
Flower_Bud is at your service.
As I understand, your printer frequently disconnects from the PC.
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Were there any recent hardware/software changes made?
When was the last time it worked fine?
Let's try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
Uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:
- Click Finder in the Dock.
- In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, then open the HP or Hewlett Packard folder.
- If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it, then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
- If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.
- Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
- In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type/Library/Printers, then click Go.
- The Printers folder opens.
- Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
- Restart the Mac.
- Right-click or Ctrl+ click the Trash icon, then select Empty Trash.
To reinstall, click here.
If the issue persists, continue troubleshooting from the link.
Let me know how that pans out
