Hi @MG1587,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP LaserJet MFP M28W printer is not picking up paper from the load tray, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you fix the problem:
1. Check the Paper Quality and Quantity
- Paper Type: Ensure you are using the correct type and size of paper recommended for your printer. The M28W typically supports standard A4 or letter-sized paper.
- Paper Condition: Ensure the paper is not torn, wrinkled, or damp.
- Paper Quantity: Make sure there is enough paper in the tray but do not overfill it. The tray should not be loaded beyond the maximum capacity line.
2. Adjust Paper Guides
- Paper Guides: Make sure the paper guides in the tray are adjusted correctly. They should fit snugly against the edges of the paper stack without bending the paper.
3. Inspect and Clean the Paper Tray
- Remove Paper Tray: Take out the paper tray from the printer.
- Check for Obstructions: Inspect the tray and the printer’s internal area for any foreign objects or debris that might be blocking the paper path.
- Clean the Tray: Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with water to clean any dust or debris from the paper tray and rollers.
4. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
- Turn Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Locate the Rollers: The paper feed rollers are typically found inside the printer, where the tray feeds paper into the printer.
- Clean the Rollers: Dampen a lint-free cloth with water (or use a specialized printer roller cleaner) and gently clean the rollers. Rotate the rollers to ensure all surfaces are cleaned.
- Dry the Rollers: Allow the rollers to dry completely before reassembling the printer and turning it back on.
5. Reset the Printer
- Turn Off and Unplug: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait: Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect and Turn On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
6. Check Printer Settings
- Check Settings: Make sure the printer settings on your computer match the paper size and type you have loaded in the tray.
- Print Test Page: Try printing a test page to see if the printer picks up the paper.
7. Update Firmware and Drivers
- HP Support: Go to the HP Support website and check for any firmware or driver updates for your HP LaserJet MFP M28W.
- Download and Install: Download and install any available updates
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
