OfficeJet Pro 8710
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

After a recent upgrade to version 10.13.6 of MacOS High Sierra, my iMac stopped recognizing my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer. All are on the same ethernet network.  But when I switch to WiFi for both the iMac and the printer, then (and only then) does the iMac automatically find, and permit me to add, the printer.  I have tried resetting the printing system; all software and drivers are up to date.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting HP.

As I get you upgraded the OS to macOS 13.6, and the printer is unable to print, you need to Trash the Software and Re Install.

For the macOS 13.X and this printer series, we have HP Smart as the application/software. Other software can be installed using HP Easy Start option.

Please click on the link below:-

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/790...

"HP Smart" is under the section "Driver Product Installation Software (1) - Please install this recommended software. This would work when the printer is connected on the network.

"HP Easy Start" is under the section "Driver (1)", Install HP Easy Start and it will look for all available drivers / software for the printer based on the OS version and will provide links to install those.

So please Trash the existing software of the printer and Install the above software and then try printing.

Gary - thanks.  I trashed the HP Smart and reinstalled it, but that didnt work.  the problem is NOT simply that the printer isn't printing -- it's that the iMac doesn't even allow me to ADD the printer.  Nothing is recognized. So there is no possibility of printing, scanning etc.  The printer doesn't show up in ANY application.  The operating system simply doesn't recognize it.  The HP Easy Start does NOT find the printer.  Thanks again

Hi,

Thank you for replying to the post.

The printer will get recognized on HP Smart only when it is connected on a Wi Fi Network and that Wi Fi should be the same as the IMAC Wi Fi.

Also very important to note is that the printer can get connected only on a 2.4 GHz network and not on 5.0 GHz, so the IMac or any other device where you want the printer to connected, should be connected to the same 2.4 GHz network and not 5.0 GHz.

I would recommend you to try the steps below.

On the Printer home screen, Drag from the top to get a drop down window.

Look for the Wi FI Symbol on the top.

Touch that and check if an IP Address displays.

Type in the IP on a browser  on IMac and see if you are able to get the Printer Page (Embedded Web Server)

IF Yes, this means the IMac and the printer are on same network.

If Not, then you need to connect the printer and the IMac to the same 2.4 GHz network and then Open HP Smart and try adding the printer.

If the Printer does not show an IP then perform the steps below:-

On the Printer Home Screen,

Look for Set Up. Touch it.

Look for Network Set Up.

Look for Restore Network Defaults > Select Yes and Continue

Again go to Network Set Up.

Look for Wireless Settings.

Look for Wireless Set Up Wizard.

Run the Wireless Set Up Wizard and connect the printer to the network detected entering the password.

Ensure the IMac is connected to the same network.

Then check the printing and scanning function via HP Smart.
