Need help - having no end of problems with printer all of a sudden. Everything was fine until I received new laptop.

Printer is constantly showing offline  and I keep getting error message "Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\AD2F1837.HPPrinterControl_126.2.222.0_x6...\HPPrintScanDoctorExt.exe'. Have unistalled and reinstalled printer drivers and Scan Doctor but to no avail. Have also tried to set up the new port as suggested in other forum questions, but when I search for the IP address that's shown on the printer and in the Network Configuration Page it comes up as not recognised

The message is related to the current version (at this writing) of the HP Smart application and the call from that app to the doctor.

Not sure what is going on - this area of the File System is generally protected from access (by Windows).

If you have not already done so, consider using the "Offline" doctor to try and sort the issue, including trying to find your printer on the network.

Resource – Choose the right doctor for the job

Open Website

HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows

Click the orange Download Now option / box

Wait!

If the problem / issue is one of

  • Printer is Offline
  • Cannot print in Color
  • Duplex printing has disappeared

THEN

Select / Answer question “Is print offline?” = YES

Answering Yes selects the “right doctor” version for these issues.

NOTES – The “Offline” doctor

As a result of repairing issues,

Offline / Color check / Duplex check version of the Doctor may replace the printer or add a “(Copy 1)” version of the driver in Devices and Printers.

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer name > Printer Properties > Tab General >

In the top box, Edit the name of the printer (For example, remove “Copy 1”)

Click Apply / OK to save change

NOTE:  The name change may take a bit of time (a few minutes), else Restart the computer and log in.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Verify results.  If necessary, set the newly added / renamed printer as the default.

A secondary “Scan” printer may be added, that is, the “Do not Delete” driver / printer.  As it says, do not delete the entry.

==============================================================================

Side Bar:  Did you perhaps copy your user account data from the old computer to the new computer?  I realize the error path is not within you User Account - I'm guessing that "something" is awry in the way the File System is able to interpret the paths to the tools.  (This could be 100% wrong, of course.)

First hp Smart can't find hpprintsacndoctor. After installing the scan doctor app and trying to detect my printer (which it did) it cant find ms-windows-store:Assoc?protocol=hpprintercontrol in microsoft store. Worst of all, I am using it on hp laptop with tons of hp bloatware on it.

I believe that these issues (yours or the owner of this thread) are perhaps related and yet not the same thing.

The issue might be related more closely to an error in the Windows File System that is preventing the Printer Control from accessing / correctly reading the application data.

The "Offline" doctor gambit was a "guess".

Not having heard back from the original poster, I would guess it was not useful suggestion.

Not surprising in retrospect (having pried through the OS looking at the available data).

The Doctor apparently has little or no influence over this part of the operation.  (Another GUESS.)

The installation of the application is likely corrupted and / or its relationship with the Printer Control function controlled by Windows.  (Yet Another GUESS).

What??

You won't find the answer you seek here (in this semi-related) thread that does not provide a useful "fix".

Suggestion:

Start a new thread of your own.

Provide enough information that someone might answer.

Stay Safe.
