HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 All-in-One Printer

The HP app is asking for printer optimization before printing. However, when I selected the print and optimization button, the printing job failed.

Hi @SarahB135,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the "printer optimization" message usually relates to updating the printer firmware, cleaning printheads, aligning the printheads, or other maintenance tasks. If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 failed to print after initiating the optimization process,

here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Restart the Printer and Device:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait about 30 seconds.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Check the HP Smart App: HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • Ensure that the HP Smart app is up to date.
  • Relaunch the app and try to initiate the optimization again.
  • If it fails, cancel the pending print job in the app and try printing without initiating the optimization.

3. Clear the Print Queue:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (on Windows) or System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (on Mac).
  • Right-click on your printer and choose "See what's printing."
  • Cancel all pending jobs, then try printing again.

4. Perform Manual Maintenance:

  • If optimization involves maintenance, you can manually clean and align the printheads:
    • Go to Settings or Tools on the printer's touchscreen display.
    • Select Maintenance > Printhead Cleaning or Printhead Alignment and follow the instructions.

5. Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Open the HP Smart app and check if there's an available firmware update for your printer.
  • Install the update, then try printing again.

6. Disable Printer Optimization Temporarily:

  • If the optimization feature is causing issues, try bypassing it.
  • In the HP Smart app, look for the optimization prompt. Sometimes, selecting "Skip" allows you to print without optimizing.

7. Uninstall and Reinstall the Printer:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers and remove the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035.
  • Reinstall the printer using the HP Smart app or the printer's installation software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
