Hi @SurfMaui,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Smart Tank 7301 printer prints but won't scan, there are several potential issues that could be causing the problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve scanning issues:

Step 1: Check the Basics

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If you are using a USB connection, make sure the cable is securely connected. If you are using a wireless connection, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Ensure that the document you are trying to scan is properly placed on the scanner glass or in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), if your model has one.

Step 2: Use the HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. If you don’t have it, download and install it from the HP website or your device’s app store.
  • Ensure your HP Smart Tank 7301 is added to the HP Smart app. If not, follow the instructions to add the printer.
  • In the HP Smart app, select the Scan option and follow the on-screen instructions to scan a document.

Step 3: Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Go to the HP Support website and check for the latest drivers and software for your HP Smart Tank 7301. Download and install any updates available.
  • Uninstall the current printer drivers from your computer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Step 4: Check Windows Services (for Windows Users)

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.Type services.msc and press Enter.
  • In the Services window, find Print Spooler, right-click on it, and select Restart.
  • Also, restart Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and HP Network Devices Support services if they are available.

Step 5: Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor (for Windows Users):

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website.Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix any scanning issues.

Step 6: Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the communication between the printer and your computer. Temporarily disable them and try scanning again.
  • Go to your firewall settings and make sure that the HP software and services are allowed through the firewall.

Step 7: Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset on the printer. This can usually be done through the printer’s control panel under settings. Note that this will reset all settings to their default values, and you will need to reconfigure your network settings.

Take care and have a good day.
