I got a new Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One and set it up a few days ago. It is set up to a router that is also an modem. I set up no web services. My network is password protected and I'm the only one on it.
A couple times I happened to walk past the printer and there was a screen that said there was a download in progress, and it showed the percent complete. This surprised me because I have not set up web services for the printer.
I cancelled the download both times. The second time I accidentally tapped the screen again. I don't know which button I hit, but it printed out a message that said my printer is now web enabled. It also said my printer has an email address.
I went into web setup and it looked to me like I had not set up the web.
1. What could this possibly be downloading?
2. If it does complete a download while I'm not looking, will there be a record of this?

Hi @Andrew111,
Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums for a solution to your printer issue.
I understand that you are using an HP Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer with a Windows 7 computer and the you noticed that the printer display said there was a download in progress which surprised you because you though that you had not set up web services. I would like to help with that.
You mentioned that the printer has its own email address. Web services would have had to have been enabled for the printer to have an @hpeprint.com email address. It is possible to turn the ePrint and HP Printables off once the HP Web Services has been enabled.
The download that was in progress was likely a printer update, which will come through automatically. Nothing to do with the computer. I do not believe that there is a record of the printer updates kept anywhere.
