Hi everyone,
I have used my printer for a few month now and I'm happy with it. The printer was sold with an additionnal set of cartridges. I ran out ob blue yesterday and replaced the cartridge, and received a message indicating that it was a setup cartridge and could not be used since the printer had already been initialised. This is super annoying, there was no mention of that when I received the printer, and this is the vendor I'm angry to, not HP. I've put the wrong set of cartidges when I received it, oviously.
Now I can confirm that it's written "Setup" on that blue cartridge, and not on the other that are installed. Is there any way to get over that without throwing away that set of setup cartridges ? Obviously I'm not going to remove all the other classic cartridges just for this one (like reinitialize the printer).
Let me know if something can be done
Thank you in advance guys
Cheers
Tony

Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Community,
Let's try these steps here:
Setup cartridges are basically used while initializing the printer. Since the cyan cartridge got over, you would need to go ahead and replace it with regular ink cartridges.
Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works (Please ensure you don't insert the setup ink cartridges).
Let me know how it goes for further assistance!

Hi Jeet,
Thank you for your reply, but I'm not sure we're totally on the same page here. The idea was to try and use that cartridge, not ditch it. Obviously replacing it with a normal cartridge will work.
Let me know if I misunderstood your answer
Anyway thank you for your time.

As the regular ink cartridges got over, In this scenario, you would need to get the replacement ink cartridges in order to have the printer working.
