Hey guys,
So I bought this printer from eBay. It is in great condition, I would say it wasn't used a lot. Anyway, it came with cartriges inside, but apparently they were registered with HP Instant Ink, so I couldn't use them. The seller had also included a couple new ones, still in wrapping. I've put them in the printer on the place of the old ones and the printer was good to go and printing. Until a couple of weeks later, which is today, when after a couple of sheets printed, the printer suddenly decided to block the cartridges and this is the message I received:
(same one I had with the first cartridges)
Now, in the middle of printing a shipping label I have already purchased, the printer decided it won't print any more... Don't know why it just decided these cartridges are regisreted with HP Instant Ink when they obviously aren't as I used them minutes before the issue happened. And because I can't really call HP as I am working during their working hours and for UK, sadly enough, there isn't a chat service - I am seeking help in the forums...
I have turned off all the Web Services by the way.

The only thing you can do is go out and purchase retail ink cartridges.
You never should have been given Instant Ink cartridges. The service contract requires that at end of contract, Instant Ink cartridges must be removed from the printer and returned to HP. In other words, Instant Ink cartridges never belong to the customer; ink is supplied without extra cost only during the subscription.
Depending on the billing cycle and when the subscription is cancelled, there is a "lag" time before the cartridges stop working. Assuming the subscription was cancelled a while ago, the printer "checks in" when it can contact the servers - apparently two weeks is included in the possible scenarios.
I am sorry this happened. It was the responsibility of the previous owner to have completed his / her part of the subscription cancellation process.

The "new ones" are not Instant Ink cartridges, correct?
If the "new" cartridges are indeed Instant Ink cartridges (they will be labeled as such on the cartridge itself), then you cannot use the cartridges. Instant Ink cartridges only work with an active subscription to the service.

HI, Thanks for getting back to me!
This is a very good point. I had put the old cartridges in the wrappings of the new ones (so I still have it all) - they are Instant Ink as well...
I guess it is a bit curious as I have been using them already.
Anything I can do? If I call the HP suppport and explain the situation, would they be able to do something about? @Dragon-Fur
Regards!

Thank you for the informative reply.
I have just ordered some generic cartridges (that should be supported by the printer of course).
Also I've asked the seller if they can just do a partial refund, so I can use the money for my new cartridges and I can send them the old ones as they are the only one that can use the cartridges. But seller responded they can't do anything about it and the printer was reduced enough already to do any refunds.
Actually, I found the same printer in eBay about 10 pounds cheaper. But it's just not worth it returning it and buying another one at this point of course. Just a bit of side information.
Thanks again for the help!

You are welcome - I am sorry the answer is not the one you really wanted to hear.
Remember that "generic" cartridges are not forbidden. Having said that, the use of "generic" cartrtidges is not supported by HP - that is, there are no guarantees associated with their use.
If you have not done so, take a look at the Printer's Website Support pages.
Good Luck.
