HP 3830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Our HP 3830 has suddenly started cutting off the left-hand side of (A4) pages, as shown in the scan of a print quality diagnostic page (below). The same problem occurs when printing from apps.

We've just replaced and aligned the ink cartridges, and checked all print settings, which look normal. Scanning and photocopying seem fine. Suggestions?

Hi! @StellarSydney, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand when you print from your printer the printer cuts off the text on the left side.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?

Have you tried printing from a different application? Does the issue persist?

As you mentioned when you print from your printer the printer cuts off the text on the left side.

Try the steps recommended below.

There is one setting in the driver which you can check. It's called Preserve Layout. Make sure that it is set to Yes.

You can find this setting here: Start>Devices and Printers>Your printer driver>
Right click and go to Printer Preferences>Advanced

If the issue still persists try uninstalling the printer drivers from the root level on your PC and install the windows built-in drivers and check if it helps.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Thanks!

We had not made any changes to the printer before the problem started.

The problem occurs whether we print directly from the printer or via either of our two computers, and is the same no matter what apps we are printing from. Copying appears to be fine.

I had already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software and drivers, but will try out the other steps you suggest re "Preserve Layout" and Windows built-in drivers.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned you have reinstalled the printer drivers but the issue still persists.

I would suggest you try the steps from my previous thread and check if it helps.

If the issue still persists update the printer driver using printer basic drivers.

I haven't been able to find a "Preserve Layout" option. I reached what I thought was the right screen (below), but these are the only options it gives:

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Try making a full page copy from your printer and check if it helps.

Also, uninstall the printer drivers from your PC and install the full feature printer software and check if it helps.
