HP OfficeJet 6962 All-in-One Printer

This printer has had minimial use over the last several years due to having a company-supplied printer (no longer have that). I have been trying to use it and at first the ink was clogged, doing a couple print head cleans seemed to help, but then it started doing it again. I’m sure I just need new cartridges. Now it is telling me there is a paper jam and it can’t print. I have tried resetting, unplugging, etc and it is still saying there is a jam, but I can’t locate a jam anywhere.

is there any way to make this work again? I really need my printer!

Hi @KatieMc1 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 6962 is displaying a paper jam error even though there is no visible jam, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check for any small pieces of paper:

  • Make sure to check all possible areas for paper jams, including the input and output trays, rear access door, and the ink cartridge access area.
  • Use a flashlight to get a better view, as sometimes small bits of paper can be difficult to see.

Reset the printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and check if the error persists.

Check the paper path:

  • Open the printer and check the entire paper path to ensure there are no obstructions. Look for any torn pieces of paper or foreign objects.

Inspect the rollers:

  • Check the rollers for any debris or obstruction. Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth moistened with water, if needed.

Update or reinstall the printer drivers:

  • Sometimes, driver issues can cause false paper jam errors. Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can download them from the HP website.

Perform a hard reset:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect all cables.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cable and turn on the printer.

Check for firmware updates:

  • Visit the HP support website and check for firmware updates for your printer. Installing the latest firmware may resolve certain issues.

Replace ink cartridges:

  • If you suspect that the ink cartridges are causing the problem, try replacing them with new, genuine HP cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
