Recently I started getting "Ink Sensor Warning" on printer display. If I hit okay on the screen the printer will print but only in black & white, no color.

I use the display to check ink cartridge levels but all four cartridges show 3/4 full. I don't believe this is accurate.

The Ink Sensor Warning tells me nothing and I'm trying to find out what the issue really is with the printer.

Can you help?

Hi @Heinzwoofwoof

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are getting an ink sensor warning.

Don’t worry, I’d love to help!

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?
  • What is the operating system you are using?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to follow below steps and check.

  • Firstly, let’s try replacing the ink cartridges to isolate the issue, check if you still get the same error message.
  • If issue resolves, the older ink cartridges are defective.
  • If the issue still persists, then the printhead on the printer is defective. Contact HP tech support for printhead replacement
  • If new cartridges work fine, then request you to contact HP tech support to get the defective cartridges replaced.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care.
