For no apparent reason my printer has stopped printing and I can't communicate with the scanner. I can send jobs to the printer and paper seems to go through but either doesn't print or it will sometimes print color what's supposed to be black, but it's very faint and incomplete. I tried to print something with text separated into sections by black bars. A very faint title was printed in blue and the bars were faintly printed but the text between the bars did not print at all. According to the printer I have ample ink. I've gone thru all the available diagnostics to no avail. Copying returns a blank page. It sounds like it's being printed but nothing comes out on the paper. Trying to scan produces an error message saying communication with the scanner can't be established.
The printer is on the network and it can be accessed from another computer in another computer in another part of the building but the results are the same. I have no reason to believe it's either computer (both HPs). No setting have been changed in anyway. The first indication that there may be a problem was a day ago when I noticed that the light in the control panel didn't go out after some period of time as usual.
I appreciate any help you may offer. I have no problem buying another printer I'm just trying to make sure there isn't a cause for the current problems other than the age of the printer.
Thanks

@DanLL123, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand the printer is not printing in black. As the copies are also blank, it means this is a hardware issue.
Perform the steps mentioned in this document - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues
Clean the ink cartridges twice and print a print quality report to check the result. Check for black.
Replace the black ink cartridge if available.
About scanning, are you trying to scan from the printer screen?
Have you tried to scan from the computer screen using the HP Smart app and check if that helps?
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Kumar,
I don't know if it was sheer luck or HP's diagnostics that did it by the printer is working fine now. I changed the ink cartridge as you suggested and ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor and it put me back in business. The scanning problem was either solved via the HP Print and Scan Doctor or a miracle but everything is working.
Thanks for your time and effort.
