HP DeskJet 2710e All-in-One Printer

The printer refuses to print. There is a door open message which prevents printing. But the door is closed. The printer knows the door is closed because when the door is opened it moves the print head to the middle. When the door is closed it moves the print head back to the side. So the sensor must work.

Hi @sammo47,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2710e is experiencing a common issue where the printer incorrectly detects that the door is open, even though it’s closed. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check the Door Latch and Sensor:

  • Inspect the Door: Ensure that the door is securely closed and that there are no obstructions preventing it from closing completely.
  • Examine the Latch: Make sure the latch that holds the door closed is functioning properly and is not damaged.
  • Clean the Sensor: Dust or debris may be interfering with the door sensor. Gently clean the sensor area using a soft, dry cloth.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn Off the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 Seconds: This allows the printer to reset any internal errors.
  • Plug it Back In: Turn the printer back on and see if the issue persists.

Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • Sometimes, outdated or corrupted drivers can cause issues.
  • Check for Updates: Go to the HP support website and look for updated drivers for your printer model.
  • Reinstall the Printer Driver: Uninstall the current driver and reinstall it to see if that resolves the issue.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Check the HP support site for any available updates.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a Factory Reset: Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset. This can help clear any persistent errors.

Try these steps and see if they help resolve the "door open" message.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
