My HP Deskjet 4252e will not scan or copy. Start button and window are blinking and eO appears in the window off and on with a 0. I have unplugged and plugged many times; plugged and unplugged from computer; opened bottom and no old paper showing. What do I do to get it working:

@Topcat72, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The E0 error code on your HP DeskJet 4252e typically indicates an ink cartridge issue, which can prevent the printer from scanning or copying. Here's how you can resolve it:
Check Ink Cartridges
The E0 error often relates to one or both cartridges being:
- Improperly installed
- Low on ink
- Not recognized by the printer
What to do:
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- Remove both cartridges.
- Gently clean the copper-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
- Reinstall the cartridges firmly until they click into place.
Note: Make sure you're using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes trigger errors.
Reset the Printer
You’ve already tried unplugging, but let’s do a full reset:
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn the printer on.
Check for Firmware Updates
Outdated firmware can cause unexpected errors.
- Download and install the latest firmware from the HP Software and Drivers page.
Run HP Smart App Diagnostics
If the issue persists, use the HP Smart app:
- Open the app on your PC or mobile device.
- Select your printer > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Diagnose & Fix.
Try a Copy Test
After the above steps:
- Place a document on the scanner glass.
- Press the Black or Color Copy button.
- Check if the printer responds without blinking or showing the E0 code.
