HP Ink Tank 316

There is an exclamation sign with a dot blinking and a red light showing in front of black dot while there's no ink in the delivery pipes of my ink tank 316.

Further there is this message printed on paper  " the pen in the right chute has error (6) when I pressed some buttons. What does this mean?

Hi @Itsmeradhika ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error you're encountering on your HP Ink Tank 316 printer likely relates to the printhead or ink cartridge issues. Here's a breakdown of what the symbols and error messages mean:

Blinking Exclamation Sign: This indicates an error or warning with the printer. It can mean anything from an empty ink tank to a printhead error.

Red Light in Front of Black Dot: This suggests that the black ink system is the source of the issue. Since you mentioned there’s no ink in the delivery pipes, it seems the black ink system is not properly filled or there's a blockage preventing the ink from flowing into the printhead.

Printed Message ("The pen in the right chute has error (6)"): This error typically refers to the black ink cartridge or printhead (as it's usually placed in the right chute). The number "6" might be an internal error code, which points to a possible fault with the printhead or a sensor issue.

Possible Fixes:

Refill the Ink Tanks: Ensure that the black ink tank is filled with the correct ink. After filling the tank, perform an ink system prime if your printer model supports this.

Check Ink Delivery Pipes: Since there’s no ink in the pipes, air might be trapped. You may need to prime the ink system to get the ink flowing properly.

Reset the Printer: Turn the printer off, unplug it for a few minutes, then plug it back in and restart it.

Clean the Printhead: If the ink has dried or clogged the printhead, perform a manual printhead cleaning using the printer's software or hardware controls. Make sure the printhead is properly seated.

Inspect Cartridges: Remove the black ink cartridge, inspect it for damage, and then reinsert it securely. If the error persists, the cartridge or printhead might need replacing.
