@Tamisl39, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding 'Cartridge Problem: The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer' error!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120, 8130, 9110, 9120, 9130, 9720, or 9730 All-in-One printer displays an error indicating that the cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Remove a Cartridge: Remove the problematic cartridge from the printer and note its number.

Verify Cartridge Number: Ensure the cartridge number matches the country/region where your printer was purchased. If it does not match, use the cartridge that came with the printer or replace it with a compatible one.

  • Out-of-warranty Cartridge: Use the four cartridges that came with the printer or purchase new cartridges that match your printer model and country/region.

Update Printer Firmware: Ensure the printer firmware is updated to the latest version.

  • From Printer Control Panel: Tap Menu > Tools > Maintenance > Firmware > Check. If an update is available, tap Yes to install it.
  • From HP Smart App: From the app home screen, click the image of your printer, then click Advanced Settings. Follow the prompts under Printer Update to update the firmware.
  • From HP Website: Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads, follow the prompts to download and install firmware updates.

Reset the Printer

  1. Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the printer and the power source.
  3. Wait for 60 seconds.
  4. Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
