Hi @Nanny-nanny

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer is having trouble with the color printing, as it’s only printing in yellow and black after you added new cartridges. If the cleaning process didn’t fix it, here are some steps you can try to get it back to full-color printing:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Make sure the cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) are correctly installed in the printer. Double-check that they are firmly in place, and the protective plastic strips (or seals) were removed from the new cartridges before installation.
  • Ensure that the cartridges are the right type for your printer model (e.g., if your printer needs HP 304, 302, etc., make sure the right ones are in place).

2. Run a Color Test Page

  • Many printers allow you to run a color test page from the settings menu. This will help you check if the printer can correctly process color.
    • On most printers, you can find this option in Settings > Printer Maintenance > Print Test Page or Print Diagnostic Page.
  • If the test page shows incomplete colors or missing sections, that might point to a cartridge or printhead issue.

3. Clean the Printheads Again

  • If the cleaning process you’ve done hasn’t worked, try running the cleaning cycle a second or third time. This is often necessary after changing cartridges.
    • Most printers have an option to clean the printheads from the menu (usually found under Maintenance or Tools).
    • After running the cleaning process, try printing a document to see if the color issue is resolved.

4. Check Ink Levels

  • If the yellow and black are printing, but the cyan or magenta aren’t, it might be an ink level issue or the cartridges might not be properly detecting as full.
    • Go to your printer’s ink status (either through the printer's menu or your printer software on the computer) and make sure the cyan and magenta cartridges aren’t low or empty.
    • Even though they’re new, it’s worth verifying that the printer recognizes all of them as installed and functional.

5. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer can help with issues like this, especially after replacing cartridges.
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug it from the power source for 30 seconds.
    3. Plug it back in and turn it on again.
  • After the reset, try printing a color document again to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
