On my office jet pro 8620, I get the code that says printer failure: there is a problem with the printer or I k system. Turn printer off then on. If problem persists contact HP. I have done this and the error stays there. My ink is fine, but I can’t even get to the Home Screen or anything because it just stays on this code. I’ve unplugged, restarted, and nothing. I can’t get a live person at HP to help me.

@Rm168, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're stuck with a frustrating error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620. Based on the error message you’re seeing, it’s typically related to an internal issue with the printer's hardware, firmware, or system software.

Here are the general troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Hard Reset (Power Cycle)

It seems like you've already tried unplugging, but let's ensure we go through the full process:

Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.

Unplug the printer from the power outlet (not just the power cord from the printer).

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Sometimes, internal issues like paper jams can cause the printer to show error codes:

Open all compartments (like the paper tray, the ink cartridge area, and the rear access panel).

Look for any paper stuck inside or obstructions that could be blocking internal components.

Remove any jammed paper carefully.

Check the Ink Cartridges and Printhead

An issue with the ink cartridges or printhead could be triggering the error:

Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.

Remove all the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or leakage.

Ensure the cartridges are seated correctly.

If your printer allows, try to remove and clean the printhead. Carefully wipe any ink residue or dust off the printhead using a lint-free cloth.

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
