I’m getting a Printer Failure. There is a problem with the printer morning system. Turn printer off, then on if problem persists, contact HP. I have an HP 8610.

Hi @ddemasijr6,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is showing a “Printer Failure” error and won’t recover even after restarting. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power Reset the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds, then reconnect and power on.

This clears temporary system errors.

Check for Jammed Paper or Obstructions

Open all access doors and inspect for scraps of paper or foreign objects.

Even small fragments can trigger system errors.

Remove and Reseat Ink Cartridges

Take out all cartridges, inspect for leaks or damage, then reinstall them firmly.

A poor cartridge connection can cause “Printer Failure” messages.

Update Printer Firmware

If the printer connects to Wi‑Fi, check for firmware updates via the control panel or HP Smart app.

Updates often resolve system errors after restarts.

Try a Semi‑Full Reset

With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord.

Hold down # and 3 (or # and 6 depending on model) while reconnecting power.

This deeper reset clears corrupted memory but keeps page counts.

Test with USB Connection

If using Wi‑Fi, connect the printer directly to your computer with a USB cable.

This rules out network communication errors.

Check Power Source

Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet, not a surge protector.

Inconsistent power can trigger system failures.

I hope this helps.
