HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer.  I am getting a printer failure message that states “there is a problem with the printer or ink system.  Turn printer off, then on.  If problem persists, contact HP”. I’ve tried turning it off and on but the same message appears.  Help!

Hi @Tommyd66,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a common issue for HP printers. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the "printer or ink system" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the printer's ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or leaks.
  • Reinsert the cartridges, ensuring they are seated properly.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Look inside the printer for any paper jams or foreign objects that might be causing a problem.
  • Remove any obstructions you find.

Clean Ink Cartridge Contacts:

  • With the cartridges removed, clean the contacts inside the printer and on the cartridges with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Be careful not to touch the nozzles or use any liquids.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then reconnect the power and turn on the printer.

Update or Reinstall Printer Firmware:

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer on the HP website and install them if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
