Hi @JWard-1985,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A "printer failure" message on an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus could indicate a few different issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot.
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on again. Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve temporary issues.
- Check for Paper Jams: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions. Even small pieces of torn paper can cause issues.
- Inspect Cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or leaks. Make sure they are properly installed in their respective slots.
- Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually do this through the printer's menu or by visiting the HP support website.
- Clean Print Heads: Sometimes, print heads can get clogged with dried ink, especially if the printer hasn't been used for a while. Most printers have a built-in utility to clean the print heads.
- Reset the Printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This will erase any custom settings, so make sure you have them backed up if necessary.
By going through these steps, you should be able to narrow down the cause of the "printer failure" message and hopefully resolve the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
