Hi @Chloe153 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with a "Printer Failure" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 (N911a). This error could be caused by several factors, such as ink cartridges, printhead issues, or even a hardware malfunction. Since you’ve already restarted the printer, checked for jams, and cleaned the cartridges,
here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Reset the Printer
Performing a reset can sometimes clear internal errors.
- With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
- Unplug the other end of the cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall and reconnect it to the printer.
- Turn the printer on.
2. Check the Cartridges
Even though you cleaned the cartridges, there could still be an issue with them.
- Remove all the ink cartridges.
- Inspect the cartridge contacts for any ink residue or damage and clean them again if necessary using a lint-free cloth.
- Ensure the cartridges are installed correctly and are not empty or defective.
3. Check the Printhead
The printhead could also cause a failure error.
- Remove the printhead and clean the contacts (use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to clean the electrical contacts).
- Reinstall the printhead and ink cartridges carefully.
4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
Firmware issues can sometimes trigger errors. Make sure the printer is running the latest firmware version.
- Go to the HP Support website and check for any available firmware updates for your printer.
5. Run Printer Diagnostics HP Print and Scan Doctor
You can run a printer diagnostics tool to identify the issue.
- Install the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's website. It can help detect and fix common issues.

I hope this helps.
