I have a client with this printer at his home.  The printer is connected via WiFi.  He is complaining that the printer will not print reliably for him.  In researching the issue, it appears if he restarts the printer, it will print reliably for a short while, then go offline again.  He is extremely frustrated.  There does not appear to be ANY way to disable the sleep mode on this particular model.

Because the manufacturers warranty has expired, I have no support options for this model other than the community forums.  Is there any way to disable the sleep mode?  I suspect if we could do this, we may get to a happy place with him.  Alternatively, is anyone having an issue with a wired connection?  If not, I may try converting to a wired network connection.

Have the client set a TCP/IP port for the printer.

Method - Create TCP IP port

** Install – Optional - Port Issues - Create a TCP/IP port **

TCP/IP can resolve odd connection, scanning, and installation problems.

Create / Switch to a TCP/IP Port to facilitate communication and prevent ‘offline’ issues

How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by  greenturtle:

  1. 1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
    2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, Right-Click the printer and Left-Click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
    3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
    4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:
Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

Connectivity

Yes, this printer supports (and is happy with) an Ethernet wired connection.

Specifications > Connectivity

As I recall, this printer requires connection to the 2.4GHz bandwidth.

If the router supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, broadcast on both bands, create a separate SSID (network name) for each bandwidth.

Connect the printer to the SSID (network) for the correct bandwidth.

Example

SSID_Dual_Band_Example_1SSID_Dual_Band_Example_1

and...

Static IP / EWS

Not an alternative to the TCP/IP port - but added information...

The printer can be set to use a Static IP address.

While the printer is "online", that is, connected to the network, (you can) use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / configure Network settings on the printer.

General Example - NOTE:  Wireless is set up in much the same way - Select the Wireless category.

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar > Tab Network
