HP DeskJet 4130e All-in-One Printer

The "information button" is flashing orange, the wifi won't connect and there is another orange flashing light. The on/off switch is also flashing.

The display is also flashing. There is an E flashing with a symbol next to it, but I can't see what it is.

I have turned everything off and on several times.

Any ideas?

Hi @Stephanie257

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying out the issue so clearly. It’s genuinely frustrating when your printer throws multiple flashing lights and cryptic symbols—especially when you’ve already tried restarting it.

Let’s walk through a few targeted steps to help restore normal operation.

What the Lights Typically Mean

On the HP DeskJet 4130e, a flashing “E” on the display, combined with:

  • Orange flashing Information button
  • Flashing Power button
  • Wi-Fi light blinking

…usually indicates a general error state, often tied to:

  • Ink cartridge issues
  • Paper jams or misfeeds
  • Wireless connection failure
  • Firmware or startup faults

Step-by-Step Recovery

1. Hard Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Power the printer back on.

2. Check for Paper or Cartridge Issues

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reseat both cartridges firmly.
  • Inspect for any paper jams in the input/output trays and behind the rear access panel.
  • Make sure paper is loaded correctly and the tray guides are snug.

3. Reconnect Wireless Setup

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds to reset the wireless settings.
  • Use the HP Smart App setup guide to reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi.

4. Interpret the “E” Code

  • The flashing “E” is often accompanied by a symbol (e.g., ink droplet, paper icon, or wrench).
  • If you can identify the symbol, refer to HP’s blinking light and error code guide for exact meaning and resolution steps.

Let me know what symbol appears next to the “E” if you can spot it—I’ll guide you further based on that.

You're not alone in this, and we’ll get it sorted.
