Hi @Tar_baby40,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with the printhead error.
If you're encountering a "printer head installed wrong" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer, here are steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Ensure Correct Printhead Installation:
- Power Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the Printer: Open the front access door to access the printhead.
- Remove the Ink Cartridges: Carefully remove all the ink cartridges from the printhead.
- Remove the Printhead:
- Lift the latch to release the printhead assembly.
- Remove the printhead carefully without touching the copper contacts or the nozzle.
- Reinstall the Printhead:
- Reseat the printhead back into its slot.
- Push down the latch to lock the printhead securely in place.
- Reinstall the Ink Cartridges: Insert the ink cartridges back into the printhead until they click into place.
2. Clean the Printhead Contacts:
- Power Off the Printer: Unplug the printer again.
- Clean the Contacts:
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Gently clean the gold-colored contacts on the printhead and inside the printer where the printhead connects.
- Dry the Contacts: Allow the contacts to dry before reinserting the printhead and cartridges.
3. Reset the Printer:
- Perform a Power Reset:
- Unplug the printer from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Power the printer back on and check if the error persists.
4. Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for Firmware Updates:
- Visit the HP Support website to see if there is a firmware update available for your printer model. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve hardware-related errors.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Tar_baby40,
Please find the remaining steps below.
5. Align the Printhead:
- From the Printer Control Panel:
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead.
- Follow On-Screen Instructions: Allow the printer to run the alignment process and check if the issue is resolved.
6. Factory Reset the Printer:
- Factory Reset (if necessary):
- On the printer control panel, navigate to Settings > Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart. Afterward, try reinstalling the printhead and cartridges again.
7. Replace the Printhead (if faulty):
- Check for Printhead Damage: If the printhead itself is damaged or malfunctioning, you might need to replace it. Contact HP Support to order a new printhead or for assistance with warranty claims.
You may also refer to this document-print head errors.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware malfunction. Since you've already tried reinstalling the printhead, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
Keep me posted for further assistance
