Hi @vvisnjam,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP ENVY 6420e All-in-One printer is showing “printer in error state” and won’t print. Let’s go through steps to troubleshoot this.

1. Restart Printer and Computer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Wait 30–60 seconds and plug it back in.

Restart your computer and try printing again.

2. Check Printer Connection

Ensure your printer is properly connected:

USB: Make sure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and computer.

Wi-Fi: Printer should be connected to the same network as your computer.

On the printer, check if the Wi-Fi or wireless light is steady.

3. Set Printer as Default

Go to Windows → Settings → Devices → Printers & Scanners.

Select HP ENVY 6420e → Set as default printer.

Right-click the printer and select “See what’s printing”, then cancel any stuck jobs.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver

Go to HP Support – ENVY 6420e Drivers and download the latest driver for your OS.

Install it and restart your computer.

5. Check for Paper or Ink Issues

Make sure there is paper in the tray and no jams.

Verify that ink cartridges are installed correctly and have sufficient ink.

I hope this helps.
