Hello, @dennserr - Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

Going through your post, I understand that you are facing issues while trying to print from your new printer. To assist you with this issue, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not.

Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy fails, then check the steps listed here: http://hp.care/2tq2kYP

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

1. The printer unit can scan and copy A4 & A3 in the Flatbed glass source, and print only Tray 1, but not in Tray 2 (it shows the same error Tray 2 Empty or Open).

2. I then check the steps listed here: http://hp.care/2tq2kYP, but still not resolve they issue of the printer unit.

Hi @dennserr,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue has not resolved after following the steps mentioned in the previous interaction.

This could be a hardware issue with the unit.

Hence, please contact HP Phone Support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

You have a good day ahead.

Hi @Rainbow23,

The thing is that my plan is to return the unit to the vendor. Actually, I bought two printers with the same model. The other unit is working well and no issue at all, the other one (which is being discussed in this forum) however, is not.

Hello, @dennserr

Thanks for the update!

This could be an issue with the printer drivers as well. Try the steps below to try and reinstall the drivers as suggested below:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on http://hp.care/2pyZRpK  to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Now, try changing the paper settings and then try printing.

If the issue persists, then please contact the HP phone support for the printer service options.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Good luck 🙂

Dear Dvortex,

Please note that I disconnected the printer from the PC and the network and did reset the unit by RESTORE FACTORY DEFAULTS, but unfortunately, still didn't resolve the issue.

It is most likely that there is a mechanical/sensor issue of this printer.

Anyway, thanks for the advise and assistance. Appreciate it.

In my case, on my HP 3800n, on the bottom of the paper tray, about a third of the way in from the front in the center, was a small plastic spring loaded latch, or catch.  I manually released this catch, and held it in the "released" position with a piece of tape.

Normally, this catch is triggerd by pusing the paper tray into the printer, and is released when it hit the metal bottom of the printer. Apparenty, the metal bottom panel of my printer was "bowed" down IMG_E8545[1].JPGIMG_8544[1].JPGslightly in the center, and failed to push on the catch.

So, another solution that worked was to put a small folded piece of paper under the metal printer bottom, which forced it up slighly, so it could activate the catch when the tray was inserted.
