I provide on-site IT support for a company with a domain. One user has a LaserJet Pro M404n. The printer has a static IP address and has been working fine for about two to three weeks.
User reports that, starting yesterday, the printer indicates it is out of paper. For example, the user would like to print a Word document. When selecting the device in question it says "out of paper."
Additionally, there is an icon on the control panel/display flashing repeatedly. It looks like a cup of water that's full (see below).
I am able to print the HP Network configuration page along with a printer status report.
I contacted HP support via chat. One suggestion was to power drain the device. Another one said to plug it directly into an outlet. Both suggestions failed as I expected.
I have tried removing and adding the printer to no avail. Restarting the spooler service had no effect.
I am looking for ANY suggestions on how to fix this.
The device is using an ethernet connection. It is on the company's printer VLAN. Thank you.

The icon you see indicates that the toner cartridge is installed and how much toner is in the printer. What happens when you try to print a report from the control panel of the printer? Out of paper error can sometimes be triggered by a paper mismatch, where the paper type/size the job is asking for is not loaded in the printer or the tray is not configured to the correct size.
