The printer is constantly making a crackling or clicking kind of noise.  It prints just fine,  makes copies, scans, faxes as needed. The irritating noise needs to be made to stop!

There are no accompanying lights, no paper jam, no carriage stall. The printer has no open job. It isn't really a grinding noise, but a kind of tapping or clicking sound sometimes a group of them other times one by itself.

A warm welcome to HP forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

A crackling or clicking noise typically occur due to loose rollers, gears or carriage. Power resetting the printer, cleaning the paper feed rollers and making sure that carriage moves freely may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Clean the paper feed rollers, refer to step 2 from this document.

5) Plug the power cord back into the printer

6) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

7) Make sure that the carriage moves freely, refer to solution 3 from this document.

Let me know how it goes!
