HP LaserJet P2055dn Printer

HP LJ P2055DN

Printer powers up, displays the HP logo and then goes to Initializing. The motor runs and the gears turn.

At that point, it flashes the power led and the attention led  4 times and is stuck in a loop. It never comes Ready.

The engine test will not run.

The formatter board has been replaced twice and the problem symptoms do not change.
The odds for getting the same error on the 2 replacement boards as the original board make me think that the formatter board is not the problem.

Possible fuser heater or fuser heat sensor seems like the next step.

I personally have never seen a fuser cause this type behavior, normally it would throw an error. I personally would lean more towards the ECU than the fuser. Assuming you are plugged directly into a wall and not into a surge protector or UPS or very long extension cord.

There have been 3 formatter/ECU boards that have the same error symptoms. This drastically reduces the possibility of formatter/ECU being the cause of the problem.

As a general rule, the formatter/ECU powers up, does an internal self check. If you see the HP Logo displayed on the LCD panel, you can be assured that the core ECU functions are working OK. At that point it proceeds to check the attached hardware.

Step 1 would logically be to make sure that the motor, positional sensors, and gears are all functional.

Step 2 would be to check to see if there are any paper jams and report them if there is a paper path problem.

Step 3 would be to check the fuser to see if it heats up and cycles off and back on to  maintain the proper operating temperature.

Step 4 would probably be to check the status of the paper supply. If it needs paper, you get a warning message on the LCD panel.  If the default paper source is OK, then you get the Ready prompt.

Unfortunately I do not have the instructions how to single step the printer through the Initialization process or put the printer into Service Mode so that the built in diagnostics can be run.
If you have those instructions for a LJ P2055dn, I would really appreciate a copy of them.
