Hi @Jods,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer display panel is stuck on loading screen!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Your HP OfficeJet Pro 9720e printer’s display panel is stuck on the loading screen, it could be due to a few potential issues like a software glitch, firmware problem, or internal printer errors. Here are several steps you can follow to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the issue:
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Unplug the power cable from the printer and from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute to ensure all residual power is drained.
- Plug the power cable back in and turn the printer back on.
- Check if the display panel starts loading correctly.
Reset the Printer:
If the power cycle doesn't work, try performing a reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the # and 6 keys on the printer’s control panel at the same time.
- While holding them down, turn the printer back on.
- Continue holding the keys until the printer resets.
- Once the reset is complete, check the display panel.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- If you can get the printer to respond even partially, try updating the firmware:
- Open the printer’s control panel and navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Check for Firmware Updates.
- If available, download and install the update.
- Sometimes, firmware glitches can cause the loading screen issue, and a firmware update might resolve it.
Perform a Factory Reset (Hard Reset):
If the above methods do not work and the printer remains stuck, you may need to do a factory reset. Please note that this will erase all your custom settings, but it can fix deeper software-related issues.
- To perform a factory reset, follow these steps:
- On the printer's display panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the reset process.
- Wait for the printer to reboot and restore to its factory settings.

Disconnect from the Network (If Network-Related Issue):
- If your printer is connected to a Wi-Fi network or wired network, disconnect it temporarily to rule out any network-related issues.
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the network, and then turn it back on to see if the loading screen issue persists.
Check for Printer Hardware Issues:
- Ensure there are no paper jams or stuck cartridges inside the printer that might be causing the display to freeze.
- Check the printer’s interior for any obstructions or errors that might be triggering the issue.
Try the HP Smart App:
- If your printer is connected to the network and you have the HP Smart app installed on your smartphone or computer, try accessing the printer through the app to check its status or run diagnostics.
- Sometimes, the app can bypass the display panel issues and allow you to manage the printer.
Let me know if you need more detailed help with any of these steps! Hopefully, this helps you get your printer working again.
