I printed a document earlier in the day on regular paper from my laptop.  Later I tried to print on envelopes and I accepted the computer suggested settings, when a message indicated that the settings in the Printer preferences were not compatible.  I am printing to an HP ENVY 7640 printer.  After I accepted the computer printer settings I clicked the printer dialog window to print an envelope and a message appeared "Attention Required  Printer needs user intervention".  I can't print a test page.  I can't print a regular document.  The same message appears. I ran the troubleshooter, but no solution was found. I don't know what to change in the printer settings.  I notice that all the Printing Shortcuts are locked, but maybe they have always been locked and I didn't notice.  I appreciate any help.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 7640 printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

 

Let's perform a power drain: 

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware
