HP OfficeJet Pro 8100
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Have lost the ability to print from my MacBook Pro.  Worked fine until a few days ago and suddenly stopped.  No updates at that time.  I have:  1. replaced the USB Cable. 2.  Deleted all print drivers and reinstalled them.  Used the HP Print Utility to "find" the best print driver - after telling it that my connection was a USB and so on - it insists that my cable is not connected.  Interestingly enough I can print the printer status report and the HP Officejet Pro 8100 N811a Series Print quality Diagnostic Page with no problem.  Any clues?  Thanks in advance!

 Hi @Gordon1061,

I'd like to help!

1.) Is there an antivirus software installed on your Mac? If yes, please try disabling it and check if it works.

2.) Are you using a USB hub?

While you respond to that, go to System Information to check the if the USB is detected or not -

a.) From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.

b.) Click System Report.

c.) Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB. USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus.

If the device is not detected, it may not be receiving enough power or it may be blocked by internet security software. You may also try other ports on the hub or a different cable.Try a different port and cable if not detected

Try updating mac and printer firmware

To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

To update Mac, try these steps - How to update the software on your Mac

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
