Hello Community,
I hope everyone had a great Christmas.
About four or more weeks ago, I realized that my printer stopped printing legal size paper the usual way. Since then, the output was landscape and very small font.
Can anyone tell me what to do to get it to print legal size the way it should?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi @In_search_of_qs,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is not printing legal-size paper correctly and is producing output in landscape with a small font, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.
Check Paper Settings:
- Make sure that the paper size settings on both your computer and the printer are set to legal size.
- On your computer, go to the printer settings or print preferences and select legal size paper.
- On the printer, check the paper tray and adjust the paper guides to accommodate legal-size paper.
Printer Driver Settings:
- Update your printer driver to the latest version. Visit the official HP website to download and install the latest driver for your printer model.
- After updating the driver, check the printer properties or preferences to ensure that legal size paper is selected as the default paper size.
Software Application Settings:
- Ensure that the software application you are using to print (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat) has the correct paper size selected in its print settings.
Print Preview:
- Before printing, use the print preview option to check how the document will appear on paper. Adjust any settings if necessary.
Default Printer Settings:
- Set your HP printer as the default printer on your computer to avoid conflicts with other printers that may be connected.
Reset Printer Settings:
- On the printer, access the control panel or settings menu and look for an option to reset the printer settings to default. This can often resolve configuration issues.
Firmware Update:
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Firmware updates can address various issues and improve performance.
Physical Inspection:
- Examine the paper tray and make sure it is loaded with legal-size paper. Ensure that the paper guides are snug against the edges of the paper.
- Check for any paper jams or obstructions in the paper path.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden4,
Thanks for your help, including the information. Only last week when I discovered that even the letter size paper was printing landscape, I discovered, as mentioned in my other post, that after a Windows update, that the settings had changed, so I re-set them. Now the letter size paper is printing correctly.
I have not tried legal size yet to see if things changed, but I believe it has. Everything you said in your reply confirms what did.
Should there be a next time, I will have your instructions to know everything to do before seeking help. Thanks again and have a great weekend.
