HP OfficeJet 8022 All-in-One Printer

I have an HP 8022 printer. It’s been unplugged for a while. Upon plugging in, screen shows verifying…..forever! Printer will not shut off. Lifting lid to access cartridges, they won’t come to center. I’ve been through the HP bot system h***. Please help!

I understand you are getting the "Verifying" loop on the HP OfficeJet 8022 printer usually indicates a firmware or hardware issue, often related to it being unplugged for a long time. Follow these steps to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Perform a Power Reset

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  5. Turn the printer on if it doesn’t power on automatically.

2. Check for Firmware Recovery Mode

  1. Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to see if the printer displays any recovery options.
  2. If it does, follow the on-screen instructions to attempt recovery.
  3. If there is no recovery screen, proceed to the next step.

3. Try a Forced Firmware Update

If the printer is stuck on "Verifying," you may still be able to update the firmware via USB.

Steps:

  1. Download the latest firmware:
    • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads.
    • Search for your printer model (OfficeJet 8022) and download the latest firmware for your operating system.
  2. Prepare a USB connection:
    • Connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. Install the firmware:
    • Run the firmware updater on your computer.
    • If the printer is detected, the tool will push the update. If it’s not detected, proceed to the next step.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect all cables (power, USB, Ethernet) from the printer.
  2. Hold the Power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
  3. Reconnect only the power cable and turn the printer on.

5. Inspect for Hardware Issues

  • Check for obstructions: Open the printer’s access doors and inspect for debris, paper jams, or obstructions preventing the printhead from moving.
  • Ensure proper voltage: Verify that your power outlet provides stable power. Avoid surge protectors if possible.

6. Attempt a Semi-Full Reset

If the steps above don’t resolve the issue, a semi-full reset can restore factory settings.

Steps:

  1. Unplug the power cord.
  2. Press and hold both the Cancel and Right Arrow buttons (or the Back and Help buttons, depending on the model).
  3. While holding these buttons, plug the power cord back in and continue holding for 10–15 seconds.
  4. Release the buttons when the printer powers on. Follow on-screen prompts to set up the printer.
