Can someone direct me on what to do besides troubleshoot this printer? It’s all been done including cleaning the brand new cartridge off with cotton and cleaning off the printer cartridge holder. I keep getting the error mess “print cartridge missing or not detected.”

I haven’t used this printer in about 4 1/2 years. Just took ito it of storage where it was still boxed and barely used from when I did use it. Has it just play out from no use at all? Please advise if I should get a new printer or another way to troubleshoot this issue.

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

As per the document available here, a power reset and a cartridge cleaning is the only possible solution available for print cartridge error. Most of the time, the printer will start functioning properly once you remove/replace the problem cartridge since the issue is normally cause by faulty printhead. You may try to print in backup mode by removing the problem cartridge, and then print with the remaining cartridge. If you remove the tri-color cartridge, the printouts are in grayscale. If you remove the black cartridge, the printer prints slowly and the colors in the printouts might differ.

If in case the printer is still in an error state even after replacing the problem cartridge then its a printer failure and the printer has to be replaced.

So it’s possible I could’ve brought a faulty ink cartridge? If you’re saying that then why isn’t the ink cartridge  I had in there before not working too! I believe it’s clunked out! SMH!
