Hi @snowmobile49,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand the printer is stuck with a purple light.

Light bar glows purple from the middle outward

Light bar glows blue when the printer is in the process of connecting to your wireless network.

Purple light moves from the center to the outer edges: The printer is in Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) mode and is waiting to connect to your computer or mobile device.

To reset the wireless connection, press and hold the Wireless button on the rear of the printer for 3 seconds, and then go to Wireless Printer Setup to restart the wireless setup process.

Light bar glows purple in the center: The printer is in Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) mode, and is waiting for password information in the HP Smart app. This state expires after 3 minutes and you must re-connect your device.

The outside edges of the light bar pulse purple, repeating and the wireless light blinks: The printer is in the process of connected to a wireless network using WPS Push Button mode.

I also have this problem and your link to Wireless Printer Setup takes me to a 404 Error page.
I'm not surprised.
I am trying to change to a new wireless connection.
It should be a simple case of following the same process that I did to get it connected in the first instance.
A purple light starts in the centre of the bar before rolling out to the edges.
The printer will not connect to any devices.
I have no connection and it just cuntinues the purple light & the blinking WiFi.
I can’t even get it to turn off, so I have to unplug it and then I get stupid emails about my printer needing to be switched on.

Hi @MachineRage

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're having trouble reconnecting your HP printer to a new wireless network, and the blinking purple light and Wi-Fi symbol indicate it's in a state of connection failure. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue:

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

If the printer is having trouble connecting to the new Wi-Fi network, it might help to reset its network settings to clear any previous connections.

Steps to reset the network settings:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Cancel button (or the Information button, depending on your printer model) for about 5 seconds. The printer’s Wi-Fi light should start blinking, indicating that the network settings have been reset.

2. Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi (Using WPS or HP Smart App)

Option 1: Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

  • Make sure your router supports WPS (most modern routers do).
  • Press the WPS button on your router. It’s usually located on the back or side of the router.Within two minutes, press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking. The printer should automatically connect to the network.

Option 2: Using HP Smart App

If your printer supports HP Smart or you prefer doing it from a mobile device:

  • Download the HP Smart app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  • Open the app and select “Set up a new printer”.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to the new Wi-Fi network.

If you’ve already set up HP Smart, just follow these steps in the app to reconnect the printer:

  • Open HP Smart.Click on the + icon and choose your printer model.
  • Select the option to Change Wi-Fi.The app will guide you through the process of reconnecting to the new network.

Option 3: Using the Printer's Control Panel (for models with display)

If your printer has a control panel, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the Wi-Fi setup menu on the printer's display.Choose “Wireless Setup Wizard”.
  • Your printer will search for available networks.Select your network from the list, and then enter the Wi-Fi password.

3. Turn Off/On the Printer

  • If the printer is stuck in a state with the purple light and Wi-Fi blinking, try turning it off for a minute and then turning it back on. If the issue persists, try unplugging it for a longer period (5-10 minutes) and then turning it back on.

4. Check for Firmware Updates

If your printer is still having trouble, there might be an issue with outdated firmware. Use the HP Smart app or go to the HP website to check if your printer’s firmware is up to date.

I hope this helps.
