We only print items a few times a week but every time we do print, our printer runs maintenance and it takes 5 minutes to print a single document. This is extremely obnoxious because it is time consuming and very loud in our office. I can't imagine why the printer would need to perform maintenance every single time it turns on. Can we turn this off?

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 Printer. I understand that your printer prints alignment page every time you turn on the printer and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Printer is trying to align itself by printing the alignment page.

Clean the printhead or ink cartridge.

Align the printhead using the printer control panel.

  1. From the home screen on the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .

  2. Swipe up on the display, touch Printer Maintenance, touch Align Printhead, and then touch Continue.

    An alignment page prints.

Click here and refer step 10 in the document to fix this issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

No, just leave the printer powered on and it will do less maintenance.
