My computer has lost contact with my printer, suddenly and for no apparent reason. Windows lists it as the default printer but says it's offline, Print & Scan Doctor detects it but says it's not connected and HP Support Assistant can't find it at all. I've tried rebooting, switching the printer off and on again (it starts, making all the usual noises, but then goes dead) and disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer's software. All to no avail. I've now ordered a new cable but am not optimistic this will help. I'd be grateful for any other suggestions.

As I understand you are having issues with the printer showing offline on your HP OfficeJet 4620 printer. Don't worry, though, as I have a few steps that should help to resolve the issue,
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details,
How is the printer connected (USB/Wireless)?
Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Please perform a Hard reset on the printer.
* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
* Remove USB cable, if present.
* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
* Now try to print a test document and check if it works,
Since you have already tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers and still having the same issue, I would suggest you try to assign a manual IP address and create a TCP/IP port which should help to resolve the issue,
