HP OfficeJet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One

I have an "HP Officejet 7612 wide format e-All-in-One" printer (FPU G1X85-64001). After powering it up I receive the error message:

"Ink System Failure"

There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off then on .If problem persists, contact HP.

After pressing ok, I receive the message "Missing or failed printhead".

The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed.

I'm not surprised by these errors as I have not powered the printer on for several years.

I have power cycled the printer after reseating the 933XL colour cartridges and 932XL black cartridge and keep getting the same error messages.

My next step is to purchase some new cartridges and if that does not work to reset the printhead.

Does anyone have experience of powering on a printer after a significant period of time, then replacing the cartridges?

Should I expect that replacing the cartridges will fix this issue. Or will I need to replace the print head?

Apologies if these appear to be obvious questions, I just hope to save some time and money.

Hi @omegagamma,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you done any hardware changes to the printer?

Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges?

However, I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
