Hi, my printer (HP Officejet Pro 8625) is printing poorly; the color is way off. I keep getting an alert asking for HP cartridges but that is what it's installed. I've tried the HP troubleshooting and am out of ideas.
Any recommendations?

Hi @snmxsnm,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed. Remove and then reinsert them, making sure they fit snugly into the correct slots.
Use Genuine HP Cartridges:
- Confirm that the cartridges are genuine HP cartridges. If they are third-party or refilled, it might lead to recognition and quality issues.
Clean the Contacts:
- Power off the printer and remove the cartridges. Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts both on the cartridges and in the printer. Ensure they are dry before reinserting them.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Firmware updates can help fix recognition and communication issues between the printer and the cartridges. Check on the HP website for any available updates for your printer model.
Align and Clean the Printhead:
- Access printer settings from the control panel or HP software on your computer to run the alignment and cleaning cycles. This can help with color accuracy and resolve clogs.
Reset Your Printer:
- Sometimes performing a printer reset can solve recognition issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and power it on.
Check the Printer Software:
- Ensure that you are using the latest printer drivers. Visit HP's Support page and search for driver updates specific to your Officejet Pro 8625.
I hope this helps.
