I just spent $61 to buy new ink cartridges, I installed them and then noticed that my printing was very light.  I did the head cleaning both basic and advanced(3 times)  I get a dark page after the heads are clean,  then when I go and print an excel spreadsheet it starts out dark then by the end of the sheet it is printing very light.  I did notice from doing the print head cleaning my ink level is down to 1/3, so cleaning the heads uses a lot of ink.

The symptom you describe could be caused if the vent was clogged, or if the cartridge was not seated properly.  See the troubleshooting document here, especially in Step 4

You should also remove the cartridge and examine the area around the ink port on the bottom.  There are four orange plastic spots that were used to keep the cap on the cartridge during shipment.  Make sure the orange plastic does not protrude from the plastic body of the cartridge.  If the nibs protrude carefully trim them flush.  If the nibs protrude they can prevent the cartridge from seating properly.
