Hi @flamed318,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is continuously printing junk or random characters, there could be several reasons behind this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Check for Driver Issues: Ensure that you have the correct and up-to-date printer driver installed on your computer. Outdated or corrupted drivers can lead to printing problems. Visit the official HP website to download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Cancel Print Jobs: Check your computer's print queue and cancel any pending print jobs. Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause the printer to continue printing random characters.
  • Printer Reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve minor glitches.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no paper jams inside the printer. Even a small piece of paper stuck inside can disrupt the printing process.
  • Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the correct paper size, type, and layout settings are selected in both your computer's print settings and the printer's settings. Incorrect settings can cause the printer to produce unexpected output.
  • Test with Different Documents: Try printing different types of documents from various applications. This can help determine if the issue is specific to a certain document or application.
  • Check for Malware/Virus: Scan your computer for malware or viruses. Sometimes, malicious software can interfere with the printing process.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you might consider performing a factory reset on your printer. This will revert all settings back to their default state. However, be cautious as this step might erase any custom settings you have.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can fix bugs and improve overall performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I appreciated and completed all the suggestions and still junk being printed. Is there a tech support contact that can talk me through a repair?

I've invested hours, paper and a cartridge trying to deal with this😭
