My Hp 5258 printer produces only blank pages.  I changed the ink cartridge.  The printer does successfully print the alignment page but does not print documents.  I hear the machine whirring but pages come out blank.

@Floyd4264, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 5258 is printing only blank pages but successfully prints the alignment page, here are some steps to help resolve the issue:

Basic Troubleshooting Steps

Check Ink Levels

  • Even though you replaced the cartridges, verify the ink levels via the HP Smart app or the printer control panel to ensure they are sufficient.

Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges

  • If you are using third-party or refilled cartridges, consider replacing them with genuine HP cartridges, as compatibility issues can lead to printing problems.

Run the Printhead Cleaning Tool

  • On the printer’s control panel:
    • Go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
    • Perform the printhead cleaning up to 3 times if needed.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Advanced Troubleshooting Steps

Check for Clogged Printheads

  • Open the printer and gently clean the printhead with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to remove any dried ink.

Try a Different Document & App

  • Print from another application (like Notepad, Word, or a PDF viewer) to rule out a software issue.

Update Printer Firmware & Drivers

  • Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
  • Update the firmware via Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.

Check Paper Settings

  • Ensure the paper size in the printer settings matches the one loaded in the tray.

Print a Test Page via Windows

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
  • Go to General > Print Test Page to see if it prints correctly.

If the Issue Persists

  • Remove the ink cartridges and manually reset the printer:
    1. With the printer on, remove the cartridges.
    2. Unplug the printer for 2-3 minutes.
    3. Reinsert the cartridges and restart the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
