I replaced a 3760 with the more expensive 7300 tank series. The 3760nworked fine for years then decided to tell me I was not permitted to print. The new one worked well and then developed the same attitude. Prints a copy and then asks me to cancel or try again. Sometimes the message shows when it is actually printing. I am wasting a lot of money on instant ink. Reported to HP who were no help at all.

Hi @Flo-6,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing recurring issues with your HP Smart Tank 7305 All-in-One printer, similar to the problems you experienced with your previous 3760 model. The message prompting you to cancel or try again after printing a single copy is particularly frustrating, especially with the cost of ink involved. Here are some steps that might help resolve the issue:
Check for Firmware Updates
- HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app on your device and check if there’s any pending firmware update for your printer.
- HP Website: Go to the HP Support Website and check if there are any firmware or driver updates specific to your model.
Reinstall HP Smart App
Sometimes issues can arise from a corrupted app or installation. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app.
Reset the Printer
Perform a factory reset on the printer:
- Unplug the printer while it is turned on.
- Wait for 60 seconds and then plug it back in.
- Turn the printer back on and reconnect it to your network.
Check the Paper Settings
Ensure that your paper settings in the printer software or app match the paper loaded in the tray. Misconfiguration here could lead to the printer failing mid-job.
Disable Instant Ink
Since the issue is happening with Instant Ink, consider pausing the service temporarily and using regular ink purchased independently to see if the behavior changes.
Disable Print Spooler on PC (if using Windows)
The print spooler sometimes causes problems. Disabling it may help:
- Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
- Scroll down and locate Print Spooler.
- Right-click and select Restart.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
