I was in the printer utility section and under security set my name and password. Now whenever I want to print, the printer holds it until I open the printer icon. The statement "Holding for authentication" makes it necessary for me to input the password. I tried setting printer to default, restarting computer without success. I'd like to get the printer back to read admin with no password required as I share this home computer with my husband.
Even tried uninstalling the printer and reloading.

I cannot speak to how the printer responds to Mojave - I do not have any Macs.
The security password you assigned to the printer is on the printer itself. Reloading the software has no effect on the printer password.
Disclaimer
The Printer Password can be notoriously fussy and prickly.
Read everything and then decide how - and whether - to proceed.
Removing the printer password should work without any problems - the instructions are easy and straightforward. However, there is no guarantee that the results will match the expectations.
Know that if you manage to lock up the printer, we cannot provide the means to reset it (Rules of Participation 4d).

If the printer is on the network, you might be able to remove the printer password using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
There are (perhaps) two parts to the security:
Password Settings
and
Administrative Settings
Password Settings provide the sign-in userid (admin) and the printer password (assigned by you).
Administrative Settings control which settings are available to users of the printer.
The following are examples from a different printer - the settings on your printer may be similar.
If removing the printer password does not provide immediate results, try restarting the printer.

Thanks for the suggestions Dragon Fur. I have multiple times tried to enter the Printer IP address into a search bar in both Safari and Google and it doesn't come up for me. I am able to get into the printer's utility system and Maneuver to the EWS (embedded web server) area. I have tried clicking on security, and then password settings. Mine reads Guest and I have to put a password. I tried changing to ADMIN and leaving the password blank and applying changes. This is step 1. Then my printer icon pops up where it is holding the item to be printed with a yellow symbol. When I click that open, it reads hold for authentication which requires another step 2 of putting in a password.
I actually got so frustrated with this situation that I went out and bought another printer. I really prefer the original printer but can't seem to get around this.
I had a problem with the new printer as well so was able to talk with someone at HP. They suggested a way to do a semi-full reset of the original printer so tried that this afternoon. I'm having no luck.....

Opinion:
Not being able - or having odd issues with with - to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) is likely an indication of a different issue. EWS access depends on your having access to any security settings you have emplaced. Assuming you have the necessary network / security access, the EWS interface should open. In fact, the initial EWS interface should open even if the connection does then ask you for the userid (admin) and the printer password (as assigned) to continue in to the rest of the EWS environment.
I cannot particularly help with any initial network access to the Embedded Web Server simply because your Mac OS / network type is beyond the scope of my experience.
Reference
User Guide - Pages 89-90
It appears from having looked at the User Guide, that some configuration is available via the HP Utility manager in OS X.
Printer Security Password settings are accessible (on most printers) via the Embedded Web Server (EWS) and (possibly) the printer control panel.
UserID: admin
Password: As assigned by the owner / controller of the printer
If I were correct:
- There is no "Guest Account" attached to the printer security.
- Printer Security sign-in has naught to do with "saving a password to your keychain" or having (or gaining) access to any particular email, social media, storage location (Cloud drive, for example), or application.
So...
If my logic sounds wrong, misguided, or confused, there is little surprise - I don't really have any idea where the issue is located. Your setup (environment) is "just different" enough from mine that my experience is useless in context.
One thought (ignore if ridiculous, I don't use Facebook):
If your Facebook login requires two-step verification login, consider removing that extra setup - at least during testing. Printer may not like two-step verification, that is, it may not be able to respond as expected / hoped to the extra layer of login settings.
NOTE - the Semi-full reset would have cleared anything having to do with the particular environment within the Printer Security settings. If the issue remains, it may be located in your browser cache (cookies, for example), the type of login required to gain access to the data (log into Facebook, for example).
I am sorry I cannot assist more completely.
It is likely something simple, after all.

Thanks again Dragon-fur! You are the only one that offered solutions to attempt. I tried all the suggestions after reinstalling that printer yesterday. Unfortunately, it was without success.
Today, I switched back to the new HP printer that I purchased after spending hours trying to wipe out the memory of the password that I had inputted. I'm not sure if I will be purchasing another HP printer in the future though-when I couldn't install a black ink cartridge in the new printer, I had to go to the store once again to purchase another cartridge and then it worked. I did call for support and asked to be sent a replacement cartridge as I figure if I'm buying a brand new product, it should work (purchased at Costco). I also noticed that my warranty started in July for the new printer but I purchased the printer on Sept 7th. I spoke with the advisor on the phone and she sent me a link that I can send in my proof of purchase and hopefully the warranty will be corrected to cover from the date of purchase.
Thanks again for your assistance! Really appreciate you.
