Hi @Grahamila,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your printer takes a long time to respond to a print command or prints documents slowly. There may be several factors involved. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to improve the printer's response and speed:

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If it is a USB connection, try plugging it into a different USB port.

Printer Settings:

  • Make sure the printer is not set to print at a high-quality setting if draft quality or normal quality is sufficient. Lowering the print quality can speed up the printing process.

Printer Queue:

  • Check the print queue to ensure there are no stuck print jobs. Cancel or delete any jobs that are not needed.

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off the printer and computer, and then restart them. This can resolve temporary issues related to the printer not responding.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that the printer drivers are up to date. Visit https://support.hp.com/us-en to download the latest drivers and software for your printer model.

Printer Firmware Update:

  • If available, update the printer's firmware to the latest version. Firmware updates can fix known issues and improve printer performance.

Network Connection (for wireless printers):

  • If your printer is on a network, check the connection strength. Ensure the printer is within good range of the Wi-Fi router.

Reduce File Size:

  • If you are printing large documents, reduce the file size by compressing images or reducing the document's complexity to enhance printing speed.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I followed the advice and it seems to have worked, so thank you.  However, when trying to download updates I am asked for the IP address and when I try and enter the only IP addresses I can find it keeps saying it is wrong so where do I find the correct IP address for my printer?

HP Recommended

Hi @Grahamila,

Thank you for the update.

To locate the correct IP address for your HP printer, follow these steps:

Access the Printer's Front Panel

  • Go to your printer and access the front panel. Depending on the model, you may need to tap a connectivity icon or navigate through settings.

Locate Network Settings

  • Find the section on the front panel that displays network settings. You may need to tap on icons related to connectivity.

Check the IP Address

  • Look for a display that shows the printer’s IP address. It’s often displayed along with other network information, like subnet mask or gateway.

Print a Network Configuration Page

  • If available, choose the option to print a network configuration page. This page will typically include detailed network information, including the IP address.

Embedded Web Server

  • If your printer supports it, you can access the Embedded Web Server by entering the IP address into the address field of a web browser. This can provide additional settings and information.

    I hope this helps.
